Thunderstorms pound region Tuesday evening

By Reginald Stanley. Posted June 4, 2025, 12:00 AM.

An upper level low pressure system brought tropical moisture, in the form of scattered thunderstorms, to the region Tuesday.

Thunderstorms began forming over the San Bernardino Mountains and coastal waters near San Clemente Island early Tuesday afternoon, quickly becoming widespread as they moved across the inland valleys. Nearly all active WeatherCurrents stations recorded measurable rainfall Tuesday evening, with the exception of Pinon Hills. Much of western Riverside County experienced widespread lightning and thunder. Thunderstorms tapered off late Tuesday night, however more thunderstorms had formed over the deserts overnight. A chance of thunderstorms exists again on Wednesday afternoon, mainly for the mountains. Across the WeatherCurrents network, Anza had received the most rain with over an inch having fallen there. Totals elsewhere were under 0.30 inches, with the exception of 0.44 inches recorded in Central Murrieta. Additional updates will be posted Wednesday.
